Chalk Paint (my modified recipe to appease the homeowner's association!)

A few months ago I made the chalk paint recipe you can find all over Pinterest.  That recipe is 1:1 cornstarch and water.  Being paranoid, I went outside to test it and thank goodness I did, because when I turned the hose on, it didn't rinse off.  I can't count on rain living in Vegas (but if the hose on "jet" didn't work I'm not holding much faith in the rain helping) and I believe eventually the sun just faded it away.  My HoA doesn't even like normal chalk unless you rinse it off at the end of the day, so I was nervous and thank goodness I checked!  Obviously, I scrapped that idea.

However I kept seeing people do the chalk paint fun and say that they had no problems and started to think it was my driveway materials.  I really wanted to do something different for today's "first day of summer fun!" so I decided to give it another go, and in my hose test, it washed off SO easily!  And it painted darkly and beautifully and wasn't runny!

So, here's my recipe:

1/2 cup cornstarch
1 cup water
food coloring as desired (probably 10 drops in each cup here)

I carried it outside on a cake pan because that was the sturdiest thing I could think of.  The paint brushes are just regular ones from the grocery store and when I realized I was one short because a neighbor girl came over, I grabbed an old makeup brush.

It's not runny at all- they just had fun splattering it!

Here you can see just how much fun they had, although our sun is so bright it can be hard to see towards the right.  As a bonus though, it dried almost instantly on the ground.  In fact, you could see it dry which they got a kick out of.

I had to make a second batch, but quickly after that everyone wanted to go inside, and I didn't want to waste it so I'm attempting to store it.  I'll update in a few days and let you all know how it held up!
